The seeds for Sundays Esport were planted in October 2018, when Aarontair created the Rocket Sundays 2v2 league with six teams. Initially, the league existed entirely within a PlayStation Network group chat, before a Discord server was brought to life after a couple of weeks. The community underwent two significant expansions, with the league increasing in size to 22 teams by Season 3, and over 60 teams by Season 6.

This gave us the platform to branch out and create a second major competition in the form of Formula Sundays, an F1 racing league that has completed eight full seasons of its own at the time of writing - it shared some resources with RS but also brought in new valuable members of the community, and has long-held the rights to a Sunday evening stream slot that has entertained viewers for over two years.

Gutbuster's SundayBot has played a huge part in the growth of Sundays Esport over the last 18 months - enabling RS players to easily report results, view standings and schedule matches; as well as hosting Sundays Packs, a bespoke trading card game, the first of its kind in Rocket League.
